CLAYTON COUNTY, GA — The search continues for a missing 6-year-old boy in Clayton County who authorities describe as vulnerable.
Six-year-old Ramon “R.J.” Jett was reported missing Sunday afternoon from the Sutter Lake Apartments off Webb Road in Riverdale.
According to Clayton County Police, R.J.’s family woke up from a nap around noon and found the apartment door open and the child gone.
Major Frank Thomas said R.J. is nonverbal and may be unable to seek help on his own, adding to concerns as crews continue searching in the summer heat.
Thomas said a neighbor reported seeing the child near a pond area while he was holding a popsicle.
“I think it was just one that put us down there towards the pond side area. She saw him down there with his popsicle he had, which the family said he did have a popsicle earlier, so that kind of added credence to him being down in that area,” Thomas said.
Authorities deployed divers and K-9 teams to search the apartment complex and the nearby pond. Thomas said the Department of Natural Resources would also assist with additional resources in the water search.
“There’s 38 buildings in the apartment complex, we went and knocked on every one them, looked in all of the cars because evidently RJ likes cars as well, so we tried to do everything we could,” Thomas said.
Police said witnesses reported seeing R.J. in the apartment complex, but investigators have not been able to locate him.
“We have witnesses that say they saw him in the apartment complex, we’ve gone door to door looking, haven’t had any luck in locating him yet, we do need the public’s help. If anybody sees RJ, please let Clayton County Police Department know, so we can reunite him with his family,” Thomas said.
R.J. is described as a light-skinned Black male, about 3 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing about 40 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green shirt and camouflage shorts.
Police are asking residents to check their yards, sheds and any other places where a child may seek shelter.
Anyone with information about R.J.’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Clayton County Police Department or call 911.
