ATLANTA — A suspected drunk driver faces several charges after being involved in a crash involving an Atlanta police cruiser.

The crash happened at the intersection of Peachtree Road and Peachtree Battle Avenue where officers found the damaged patrol vehicle and a Mercedes GLE with airbags deployed.

Police say the driver of the Mercedes was not consistent with how the accident happened and showed signs of impairment, with slurred speech.

The driver, identified as James Rankin, faces Failure to Yield when Turning Left, DUI Per Se, DUI Less Safe, and Reckless Driving charges.

Police say blood tests collected after a search warrant was obtained was submitted to the GBI.

The incident remains under investigation.
