ATLANTA — A 10-year-old girl was killed after a tree fell onto her Atlanta home as storms moved through the metro Atlanta area.
According to Atlanta fire officials, a tree fell onto a home on Mims Street near MLK Jr. around 3 a.m.
The child’s mother and grandmother were also rushed to the hospital. The current extent of their injuries are unknown.
The child has been identified as 10-year-old Erica Dixon.
In a GoFundMe campaign, the family said Erica, who they affectionately called Tink, was in bed with her grandmother when the tree fell. The grandmother’s pelvis was broken and the family says she is paralyzed in one of her legs.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp also shared his condolences in a post on X.
“This morning, we’re saddened by the tragic passing of this young girl as a result of last night’s storms. We ask that all Georgians join us in praying for her loved ones during this difficult time.”
The American Red Cross has been contacted to provide additional support to the family, officials add.
