CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — Authorities have located the body of 17-year-old Jackson Croft from Woodstock Friday evening, almost 24 hours after he first disappeared.
Emergency crews responded to Lake Allatoona after reports about an empty boat spinning circles in the lake around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Crews were able to stop the boat, however, they didn’t know at the time if the owner was in the water or was able to swim back to shore.
Mark McKinnon with Georgia’s Georgia Department of Natural Resources says searching Lake Allatoona can be difficult because of underwater standing timber on variations in depth.
“About 3:38 this afternoon, DNR game wardens located something on the sonar that they wanted to have checked out. They made a couple of passes with the sonar to be sure that it was something that they wanted the divers to look at. They sent the ROV, which is the remote operated vessel, down to confirm, and then the Cherokee County dive team was able to make a recovery a short time later of the victim.”
Multiple agencies, including the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the rescue teams from Cherokee County Fire and Rescue worked together in the search for Croft.
