ATLANTA — The Federal Aviation Administration has imposed new restrictions on private and business flights at some of the nation’s busiest airports, including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as the ongoing government shutdown leaves air traffic controllers working without pay.
The move limits operations for business jets and other private aircraft at a dozen major airports across the country. FAA officials say the restrictions are necessary to manage traffic and maintain safety with reduced staffing levels.
The National Business Aviation Association says it’s working with flight operators to help them understand the new limitations and their impact. The group notes that business aviation supports more than one million jobs nationwide and generates about $340 billion in economic impact each year.
The FAA says exceptions may be granted for emergencies, medical transport, or military and law enforcement flights.
The restrictions do not apply to other metro Atlanta airports popular with business travelers, including DeKalb–Peachtree Airport, Gwinnett County’s Briscoe Field, Fulton County Executive Airport, and Cobb County International Airport.
