ROSWELL, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the person accused of fatally shooting a Roswell police officer on Friday evening.
Roswell Police Chief Jim Conroy said an officer, whose identity has not been released, responded to reports of a suspicious person at a shopping center along Market Boulevard.
Officers approached 23-year-old Edward Espinoza behind the shopping center where he shot one of the officers several times.
First responders attempted to render aid to the officer who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Espinoza is in custody and the GBI has taken over the investigation.
“More information will be released in the coming days, but our priority now is to surround and support the family of our fallen officer and grieving department. We ask that your hearts and your prayers stand with us in doing the same,” the police department wrote in a Facebook post.
Governor Kemp released a statement saying that his family will be praying for the fallen officer’s loved ones and asked that all Georgians keep the family in their thoughts and prayers.
Tonight, Marty, the girls, and I are praying for the loved ones of a Roswell Police Officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty. We join them, his fellow Roswell PD, and all law enforcement in mourning this sudden and heartbreaking loss, and we ask all Georgians to join…
