ATLANTA — A lawsuit was filed in federal court in Atlanta on Thursday to overturn Georgia’s new law that requires parental consent for children to use social media.

Georgia became the eighth state that the group has sued by NetChoice, a technology industry trade group.

The law is set to take effect on July 1. In Ohio and Arkansas, federal judges have overturned similar laws.

Georgia officials expect to defend the measure.
