GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — The Gwinnett County School Board is moving forward in its search for a new superintendent, discussing the results of phase one during a special meeting Wednesday evening.
The first phase focused on community engagement, including surveys, focus groups, and public gatherings to gather thousands of perspectives from students, staff, and families on what qualities they want in the district’s next leader.
According to the board, the feedback will help shape a leadership profile outlining the skills, experiences, and values most important in the next superintendent. Board Chair Dr. Adrienne Simmons said the community input provides a strong foundation “for finding a leader who shares our values.”
The board plans to identify potential candidates by the end of this year and hopes to name a final superintendent by spring 2026.
Former superintendent Dr. Calvin Watts, who had led the district since 2021, was terminated earlier this year.
The special meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.
