MARIETTA, GA — A new partnership between Kennesaw State University and Marietta City Schools is shedding light on how banning cell phones in classrooms can benefit both students and teachers.

Surveys of teachers following cell phone restrictions in the classroom show that not only is student engagement increasing, but so is teacher satisfaction:

KSU professor MeiLin Chang worked with Marietta schools on the study.

“They feel most supported, and their personal well-being has improved,” Chang reports.

Since Georgia lags behind in having teachers certified to teach in their area, it’s important to keep and attract teachers who experience job satisfaction.

She says that teachers in schools that don’t ban cell phones have a tough job.

“Students are not paying attention in class,” Chang says.

Chang says they’ll look at how other schools will implement the cell phone ban.
