WOOSTOCK, GA — Cherokee County prosecutors say a Vietnamese national admits to intentionally setting fire to a nail salon in Woodstock in 2021.

Kang Thanh Luu, 48, of Gwinnett entered a negotiated guilty plea to arson in the 2nd degree and criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree.

Deputy Chief Assistant D.A. Damion Overstreet says a police officer found a glove belonging to Lou at the scene of the fire at Nick’s Nails on Highway 92.

He will serve a five year sentence for setting fire to Nick’s Nails with the first three years in prison and the remainder on probation.

Overstreet says Luu never admitted a motive, but authorities believe the fire was financially motivated due to a connection he had with a former owner of the salon. Luu is facing a five-year sentence, including three years in prison, followed by deportation. He has also been ordered to pay more than $382,000 in restitution.

Prosecutors say he’ll be deported once he’s released from prison.
