ATLANTA, GA — A sinkhole has opened up near North Avenue in midtown Atlanta near the Coca-Cola headquarters.
The hole is about five feet deep and two feet wide. At least one car wrecked after hitting the hole.
One unfortunate driver got up close and personal with the sinkhole after he got a flat tire from driving over it.
“It was literally five feet deep, I could stand in it comfortably,” David Kimbro said. “None of us saw it. Might have seemed like a shadow, but we didn’t see anything.”
Kimbro was the unlucky driver who was first to smash into it as he drove to work.
“It sounded like a big clunk…and car started smoking…and just been sitting here for an hour and half,” he said.
A tow truck eventually arrived to assist Kimbro, but the impact left his front tire crushed.
Atlanta police are directing traffic away from the hole. One lane is open in the area, which is close to Luckie Street.
WSB’s Triple Team Traffic recommends using 10th Street as an alternate to avoid delays.
