SOUTH FULTON, GA — A Georgia State Patrol officer is recovering after being injured in a crash Thursday morning in South Fulton.
Authorities say Officer Cornelius Wood was on foot when he was struck by a vehicle on Cascade Road near Old Cascade Road around 7 a.m. while investigating a separate traffic accident. Wood was thrown into the air by the impact and was taken to a hospital, where he is alert and undergoing surgery on his leg.
South Fulton Public Safety Director Cedric Alexander said that Wood’s injuries are not life-threatening.
The driver, a 19-year-old, now faces pending charges. Investigators have not released the driver’s identity or the specific charges at this time.
“Officer Cornelius Wood was working a traffic accident at the 5400 block of Cascade Road,” Alexander said. “It was during that time he was struck by a vehicle that flipped him into the air.”
